Ok...I was bored, so I started playing with the
Google Maps API and the MCE SDK. The result was this page :
http://savage.org.za/GMAPMCE/ which doesn't really add much functionality
other than being able to browse the world from your couch with the remote.
To add to your Media Center simply download and install GMAPMCE from the links on the right and it's
available to use in Windows Media Center under the More Programs menu.
On the web page use the arrow keys to move around and PgUp / PgDn to zoom. On MCE
use the arrow buttons and CH [+][-] on the remote.
New! Google Moon & Google Mars for Media Center
ZaEpg
This is an EPG service for South Africa based on bladerunner and KeepKey. Your media
center will download the epg from one of the linked EPG providers. It lists the same EPG providers as MCEGuide.co.za so you can follow the installation guide
here and optionally download and install the MCEGuide client instead of ZaEpg. Note that this is Windows Media Center Only, it will not do anything
for media portal, mythtv or any of the other htpc solutions.
Please use the Electronic Program
Guide (EPG) forum on the SA MCE Community site if you have any questions.
How to install
- Download the appropriate ZaEpg version.
- Unzip and run the installation.
- If you are running XP MCE (pre-rollup2) you may need to install .Net framework 1.1
[download it here].
- If you are running Vista, Windows Defender will ask you whether to allow "KeepEpg"
to be installed as a service, click Allow.
- Reboot to start the KeepEpg service.
Setting up the guide in Media Center
- Within MCE, set the region to South Africa (if not already done) - the first step
of set up guide listings is a good place to do this.
- Run set up guide listings and enter "0000" as the postcode.
- You may need to download the guide once before setting up the channels.
How to upgrade from zaepg-xxxx1.0.0.0
- Remove the old application in Add/Remove Programs.
- Unzip and run the new installation.
- Follow the install instructions above.
- Note that for this upgrade you will need to set up the guide in media center again.
Other software that may interfere with ZaEpg
If you have installed BladeRunner, EpgRunner, QuickGuide, SmartGuide, KeepKey, you
should remove or disable them before using ZaEpg
