Windsurfing and water health
When we go sailing at Bronkhortspruit dam I drive past the Delmas turnoffs on the way there, so when I saw these reports about typhoid outbreak in Delmas I start to wonder if we are at risk at the dam? Delmas is only about 15-20km upstream from Bronkies. The other thing I found last week was this page on toxic blue green algae. Julian said he was getting eye irritation every time he goes to the dam which is one of the symptoms. I'm sure that slimy bit you have to walk through on the bank to get to the water is not very healthy. Some of the other symptoms are pains in muscles and joints, and liver damage from long term ingestion. They probably got those symptoms after interviewing some windsurfers on a monday morning :
Q: "How do you feel?"
A: "My joints hurt and I can't lift my arms"
Q: "Any other problems?"
A: "Yes, my liver is damaged from the weekend"

Julian's eyes are not sore from the water - it's eye strain from reading his stash of girlie magazines by candle light, in the dark parts of the garden, so his missus can't catch him in the act !
